As the selected artist for the Modern Niagara Western Canada headquarters, I was tasked with encapsulating the spirit of North Vancouver through a series of murals and artworks that not only celebrate the region’s natural beauty but also resonate with the company’s core values and vision.
The first phase of the commission involved the creation of three expansive murals, each a tribute to the distinct aspects of North Vancouver’s geography:
The Rainforest Mural: This piece is a verdant portrayal of the local rainforest, designed to envelop the viewer in its lush, green canopy.
The Alpine Meadows Mural: Capturing the serene beauty of alpine meadows, this mural blends tranquility and ambition, reflecting the company’s aspirations.
The Vancouver Skyline Mural: A dynamic representation of the Vancouver skyline, this mural is branded with Modern Niagara’s color scheme, showcasing the corporation’s presence within the city’s fabric. The skyline is set against a transformative backdrop, highlighting the company’s adaptability and continuous drive.
Phase Two: Boardroom Artistic Installations
The second phase focuses on the interior, with large-scale artwork installations in two boardrooms:
Architectural Artwork: This piece is a conceptual collage of selected Modern Niagara projects, including UBC Pharmaceuticals, RCMP Headquarters, and the MEC Head Office. The composition is framed by intricate details from the operational mechanical room of Simon Fraser University, symbolizing the technical precision and expertise of Modern Niagara’s portfolio. The artwork is produced directly onto an aluminum substrate, giving it a contemporary and industrial edge.
Sky Pilot Mountain Artwork: Echoing the geographic theme of the first phase, this photographic artwork of Sky Pilot mountain is installed in the second boardroom. The image, printed on aluminum, serves as a serene yet powerful reminder of the company’s connection to the local landscape and its towering achievements.
Through these artistic expressions, I aimed to create a visual narrative that not only reflects the beauty of our surroundings but also embodies the innovative and forward-thinking ethos of Modern Niagara.
