Desirée was commissioned by the City of Richmond to create utility box wraps for the city’s public art program.
While researching Richmond’s photographic archives, she found inspiration within the distinctive history of Lansdowne Park Racetrack and chose to work with the rich documentation of this once bustling scene. After selecting twelve vintage photographs, Desirée created a shifting graphic concept to imply motion and illuminate the unique impact that horse-racing once had upon this location (among the many uses of this site from 1924 to present day).
Its vibrancy is intended to promote curiosity, while honouring this unique local history.
The colourful palette and modern aesthetic are meant to compliment the innovative architecture that currently resides adjacent to this installation (KPU Chip Wilson School of Design) and pay tribute to the technical fields of fashion, graphics and interior design studied within the school.
